JORDAN'S STORY
Due date: 12-12-95
Birth date: 23-10-95

My first pregnancy was a time of excitement and very uneventful until that fateful day. It started out normally got up had breakfast and headed out to the shops, to get a few groceries. In the middle of the shops I felt my pants get a bit damp, though maybe bladder was leaking and went to the toilet and though nothing of it. I went home and went for my nap. I woke up with my pant soaking wet. I was at a loss at what I should do. Who should I call first my fiancée' (now husband), John or the hospital. I called John at work and told him what had happened. I then called the hospital and explained what had occurred, they told me to get in ASAP. I called John again to tell him I was going to the hospital. He said he'd try and contact my support person to come and pick me up to go to the hospital (he had our only car). He hung up and I went outside to wait for her (my support person). After waiting for 20 minutes I went inside to the phone ringing. It was John again, he couldn't contact my support person and told me to get a cab. I called the cab and it soon took me to the hospital.

After directing the cabbie to the hospital, I met my husband in the emergency department of the hospital. It was then I started getting contractions (it was about 6.30pm). I think we surprised a few members of my prenatal classes (it was the night of our classes) when they was me being admitted. They took my blood pressure and put a foetal monitor on me (heartbeat and contractions) for first 20 minutes. Something concerned them so they wheeled me upstairs to the delivery suites with the monitor still attached. They monitored me for another hour and they told me the worrying news. My son's heartbeat was dropping during contractions and not really coming back (they didn't tell me my heart beat was dropping too) and they recommended a c-section. I agreed and was wheeled in to the pre-op room There they gave me a nerve block, which was interesting as I had to tell the anestsiologist when my contraction were coming, just in case he hit my spine.

With the anestiesa in. I was ready to go into the operation theatre. The operation itself was uneventful., tho the anestsiea made me very talkative( I'm usually very shy), I remember looking up and asking to a room full of glasses, "why do all doctors wear glasses?" I could feel them poking around and their comments (when they commented on my good ovaries I felt like saying thank you) and finally they pulled Jordan out much to his surprise(my husband looked over the screen just as they took him out, according to John he had a such a look of surprise on his face). They cleaned him up and showed him to me before taking him to the NICU.

He stayed in the NICU for 4 weeks , he just needed to regulate his temperature and feed. They said this PROM was caused by an infection in my uterus.

Jordan is now 4 years old and in preschool with no side effects of early arrival.
