ALEXANDER'S STORY
Due date: 12-7-99
Birth date: 7-6-99
My pregnancy went really well despite
alot of stresses during it. In the last
2 weeks I was on antibiotics as a
vaginal swab came back positive. Just as
I thought the bugs were taken care of
Alex decided to come.
It started at 7am, when I was putting my
son back to bed. (I don't like him up
b4 8am) when my waters burst suddenly. I
ran to the bathroom and stood in the
bath, watching my waters trickle down my
legs, until the flow slowed a bit. I got
hubby up and called my parents to come
and look after Jordan. We then got into
the car and headed to the hospital,
which was usually 15 minutes away but
being peak hour it took an hour. During
the drive in my contractions stated very
erratically, 5 Min B/W some 15 Min B/W
others. I finally got to the hospital
and was escorted up to the birthing
suit. As soon after I entered the suit I
began to get some strange symptoms.
I began coughing with my contractions, I
eventually vomited, nearly making hubby
vomit in the process. Strangely the
coughing seemed to help me dilate
because by 10.30am I was 6cm dilated. It
was a very uncomfortable labour as I was
stuck on the bed with a heart monitor on
me all the time as My first son
experienced distress during labour. By
11am I was getting very sore and
requested a pethidine shot. I spent the
next 2 hours lying on my side, massaging
my back with a heatpad during the
contractions. That was until I felt a
strange pushing during contractions. The
end was near.
The doctors started settingup the room
for the birth. I tried to push the bubs
out but I couldn't push him much. I'd
get him to crown then he'd slip back
again. A suction delivery was called
for.stirrups were put at the end of the
bed and my legs were strapped in, a most
unfortable experience. I started pushing
again and I felt a ripping as the docs
were putting anaesthesia for an
episiotomy. My god it hurt!!!!!!!!!.
Then before I knew it my son was born.
He was very long and had a thick crop of
hair. He was assessed and sent down to
the nicu (he was 5 weeks prem) where he
stayed 2 weeks.
