I experienced PROM with all 3 of my pregnancies. My first one at 29 weeks. I was shocked. I was working a very stressful job; but was experiencing a normal pregnancy. On 10/15/93 at about 5:00 pm I felt as if I lost control of my bladder. I didn't realize my water broke. I just kept using the bathroom thinking oh great, here comes the bladder control problems. My husband came home around 9 pm and insisted we call the doctor. They said to come right to the hospital. I was given a steroid shot to speed up development of the baby's lungs. I was also given pitosin to stop the contractions. It worked for a few hours but soon the contractions just kept coming. So, I was in full labor and was told I'd be having my baby that night. Our hospital did not have a NICU so I was transported by ambulance across town where there's a NICU. I was so scared. I prayed and prayed. I offered up my pain for my baby. I was so angry with myself for letting this happen. I did not allow myself to complain about the contractions because I just couldn't stand the thought of the pain I was putting my baby through. Nicholas was born at 5 a.m. that next morning. He weighed 3 lbs. and 1 oz. He was so tiny but so beautiful. His lungs were fully developed; he was on oxygen for only a day. I couldn't believe he made it. He stayed in the NICU for 7 weeks. He came home at 4 lbs. 10 oz. on a monitor because of A's and B's. My PROM has been undiagnosed PROM #2 >> PROM #3 >>
