This is hopefully the last of my PROM
stories. After my first two PROM
losses I again tried to get pregnant.
This time it wasn't so easy. My
husband and I were referred to a
reproductive endocronologist. We went
through all the tests and were
diagnosed with unexplained
infertility. Our first plan of action
was clomid with inseminations. We
tried the first time in Feb 01--didn't
work. March we were unable to try
because I had a cyst on my ovary and
actually took birth control pills to
get rid of it. My second insem was on
Good Friday the 13th in April. 2
weeks later we found out we were
pregnant. I was referred to a
perinatologist for this pregnancy. He
started at week 11 doing ultrasounds
to check my cervix every 2 weeks. At
week 17 my cervix was funneling and I
was taken in for an emergency
cerclage. The doctor told me my
cervix was in pretty bad shape by then
and could only close it at the
bottom. I was put out on bedrest and
just prayed that would do the trick.
I definitely had an incompetent
cervix. Well, 3 weeks later I
ruptured again. I was taken to the
hospital and stayed there for 3 days
more and was sent home. I started
having contractions the next day and
went back to the hospital again. When
they hooked me up to the monitors they
could not pick up anything when I was
feeling the contractions and thought
that it may just be a bladder
infection. My hopes were up again.
They had to take the stitch out to
avoid infection and when they did a
speculum exam they saw the foot. It
was happening again. This time I
waited until I went into labor on my
own. My whole family waited with me,
my husband, my mother and my 5
sisters. About 15 minutes after my
sisters left at 2:21 in the am on
August 18, 2001 my son was born. We
named him John Edward. When he was
born he was breathing and when I held
him, he wrapped his hand around my
finger. That memory will be with me
forever. He only lived about 20
minutes. Now I have 3 angels buried
next to each other and the pain has
not lessened. I still want so bad to
have a baby and was willing to try
again. I am 34 so I did not want to
wait to see if we can do it on our own
for months so I went right back to the
RE and had an insem done on Dec 1. It
worked and I am now 8 1/2 weeks
pregnant. The plan this time is to do
a cerclage at 12 weeks, before the
funneling starts. I am hoping to be
put on bedrest for the duration. I
will do anything to get through this
pregnancy with a live baby in my
arms. Please say a prayer for me and
my baby. I hope to be a successful
story with this one.
