I was 19 weeks pregnant when at work I felt a sudden rush of fluid. I thought that I had urinated on myself and didn't think much of it. It continued over the next few days but there wasn't alot of fluid and I just thought I would talk to the Dr at my next ultrasound. At 21 weeks I went in for my appt. In the appt. the ultrasound tech noticed the low fluid and said that I needed to see the Dr immedietly to see if there was anything wrong. The Dr ran a test to see if it was amneotic fluid and the test came back positive. I was was then advised by my Dr that I had a small chance of having a healthy baby and that I could also have complications and was sent home to decide if I wanted to term the pregnancy or just wait and see what happened. My father-in-law advised that I should seek the advise of a specialist and we were quickly ushered into an appt. that afternoon. The Dr told me that my husband and I needed to decide if I wanted to go forward which meant an long 3 month hospital stay of to term the pregnancy. Even if I stayed in the hospital there would be no guarantee of a healthy of even living child. Since I was only 21 weeks my baby was not considered viable until 24 weeks. So I stayed at home on bed rest for 3 weeks and went into the hospital on Oct. 14th. I was released on January 4th. I was able to keep some fluid in for the first few weeks but after that I was pretty much zero at every ultrasound. It was a long haul both mentally and physically. 3 months is such a long time to spend in 1 room. My daughter was born on December 30th. She was 5 lbs and 12 ounces and she had very little wrong with her. She was on oxygen for the first 2 days and was deemed to be fine. She had bi-lateral club feet. They let her out of the NICU after only 9 days. After 6 months her bilateral was 90% corrected and today she is a beautiful happy little 19 month old. I know I made the right decision and am so thankful everyday.
