Suzanne's PROM Story

By Suzanne, Adelaide Australia
PROM at 29 weeksDelivery at 29 weeks.
Story added: 2000-02-23
My Third pregnancy ended again with PROM at 29weeks. My pregnancy was a troubled one from 20 weeks on with a lot of bleeding and pre term labour, in which they used Salbutamol to stop. I had a lot of celestone again and my baby boy was delivered by C section at 12 hours after my water broke, due to active labour and a foot presenting itself first. He wieghed in at 3lb 1oz and spent 7 weeks in NICU then another 7 Weeks in Special care nursery. He has been very sick on and off until he was 1 yo. He is now 2 yo and nice and healthy.

I am now pregnant with my fourth child (27weeks today), we have a lots of problems but because we have moved states I have a different doctor. We have finally been told that I have an irratable uterus, which is why I have lots of bleeding through my pregnancys and suffer preterm labour. They do not know why my membranes rupture and why
when they do rupture my Labour comes to a stand still.

At the moment every day that we keep our baby inside me is a bonus. We have had the lectures about not surviving if born before 24 weeks and all the other problems associted with a prem bub, but if I make it to 28 weeks our baby has a 90% survival rate with low disablilties, and so that has been our goal ( only 7 days to go!!!)

Thankyou for reading my story. Not all people have problems after the first but some of us are just unlucky. I am just grateful that I have three beautiful children with hopefully a forth on the way.
