Josie's PROM Story

Story added: 2007-12-31
This was my first pregnancy. I had some cramping overnight the day before my water breaking.
I had brown spotting with CM the next morning (didn't know that could have been my plug). No cramping at the time of spotting.
I asked the high risk peri's office and they said this was normal. I had some minor cramping during the day and no more spotting. I had some leaking fluid at 7pm with some cramping.
We went home and called the on call dr. (my dr). Dr said they couldn't do much that he thought it was just urine. My DH and I thought it was ambiotic fluid. He said to come in -in the morning or go to the ER if it got worse. During the night while laying in bed, my water broke completely. huge gush.
I went to the ER and was constantly leaking water and blood. I was trying not to stand but had to while giving my information to the ER personnel.
The next morning, my dr came to see me and later that day he said I had a fever and they suspected an infection. (Infection because of my water breaking - not an existing one to cause it to break).
I had to induce because of risk to myself. My dr. wanted to see how it would go until he found out that I had a fever. After that, he said that I was his primary patient and although he was against termination, he wanted to keep me alive. I pushed back and said I would like to wait, but he told me that I would put myself in danger - organs shutting down, etc. My husband and I decided to induce for my health. Later that day we induced (no D&C or D&E). Our son was born that evening. He was perfect. We named him and got to hold him. The next day we got pictures of him that I couldn't look at for about a week since I was so sad.
