Lauren's PROM Story

By Lauren, New York USA
PROM at 30 weeks + 6 days. Delivery at 34 weeks + 2 days.
Story added: 2007-10-01
The pregnancy seemed perfectly normal, although with first trimester bleeding that did not concern my OB. Just before 31 weeks my water broke and I was admitted to the hospital that night. They put me on magnesium to prevent contractions from starting (they never did) and gave steroid shots to assist in baby lung development. I stayed on bedrest with no labor until 34 weeks, when the dr's induced due to concern over baby's slowing growth rate. Ava was born at 4 lbs and spent 2 weeks in the hospital. She is now a healthy 14 month old.

Upon delivery of Ava, dr found an irregular placenta/cord attachment, that was never detected by ultrasound. She believes this is what caused PROM, but there is no way to be sure of that.

I am currently 22wks pregnant with my 2nd. Dr's are watching my cervix closely and beginning weekly p17 shots.
