My water broke after a stressful day at nursing school. I had been having bad cramps for about a month, but my Dr thought it wasn't serious, and likely due to my 10cm fibroid. My midwife confirmed that my water broke,(there was a big gush) and told me that I'd likely miscarry in the next few days. Well, I didn't. I continued to leak fluid for 15 more days, and I stayed home on very stict bedrest. My weekly sonograms always showed that I had just enough fluid, and that my baby's heartbeat was good. During my bedrest period in the first few days, I consulted a midwife/Dr in VT, and she told me to take crampbark, bioflavinods, cal/mag., borage seed oil, glucosamine sulfate, vit C, drink LOTS of water, and eat plenty of protein (I drank Insure). And lay on left side. It was about a week and a half after starting these suppliments that I stopped leaking and my membranes sealed. I stayed on bed rest for another month, as I was having cramps, and my cervix had thinned quite a bit. My daughter was brn 16days late! 9/10apgars! I took castor oil to induce! This website was so helpful to me. The specialist I saw scared me w/ statistics, and all the defects my baby could have, but when I saw her heartbeat on the sonogram, there was no way I would terminate this pregnancy. I knew she had a chance-so I stayed VERY still, took the above vitamins, and loved her. Good luck to anyone ever going through this. It is heart renching.
