Margaret's PROM Story

By Margaret, Usa
PROM at 20 weeks + 6 days. Delivery at 32 weeks + 4 days.
Story added: 2006-09-06
I just want to begin by saying to all who read this and are experiencing pprom- my heart goes out to you and it is my sincere prayer that you remain strong- regardless of whether your angel baby stays here with you or goes back to heaven.

My situation is not the norm- far from it but I want to share my story because sometimes hope and faith is all there is.
I was a high risk preganancy from the beginning due to a thermal uterine ablation surgery I underwent 3 years prior. I honestly didn't think I could even get pregnant let alone carry another child. I had just gotten over the shock of being pregnant when my water broke at 20 weeks/ 6 days. I was hospitalized for three days and prepared myself to lose my baby as I had been told by 3 doctors. I was given the option to terminate but chose not to for fear that I would never again sleep, wondering if I had intervened with God's plan. I stayed at home on modified bedrest for the first month after my rupture and then spent weeks 24- 32 in the hospital. My baby was born via c-section after I went into labor on my own.
My doctors were not optimistic..at all. My uterus was badly scarred from 3 previous c-sections along with the ablation. I had a complete rupture and never accumulated any fluid for the 12 weeks that I held my baby in.
By Gods grace, my son was born weighing 3lbs 7 oz. and spent just 2 days on a ventilator. he is now 4 months old and came home from nicu one month ago. He is on oxygen until such time that his lungs mature and become healthy enough that the oxygen is no longer needed.

I don't know that I am in a position to give advice to anyone, ...by all medical laws- my son should never have made it but he did and all I can say is that it was and it is God that kept him.
For those of you that have faith, pray not so much for the outcome- but rather for the strength to endure whatever outcome you face.
