Jackie's PROM Story

By Jackie, Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada
PROM at 32 weeks + 1 days. Delivery at 32 weeks + 4 days.
Story added: 2004-08-28
at 32 weeks + 1 day I went to see my doctor because I was leaking fluid. He did an pelvic exam to see what the problem was. I waited about 20 minutes for the results and he told me that I was leaking mucous and not to worry about it.

The next day, I was reading a magazine and it was talking about leaking mucous. It said that losing your mucous plug means you'll have your baby soon. When I went to the bathroom I noticed blood so I freaked out and called the hospital. They told me to go to the hospital because I should have my baby soon. So, we went to the hospital.
They told me that my membranes had ruptured prematurely and I should have my baby in a couple of days.

So, I was in the hospital for a couple of days. They gave me steroids to help the baby's lungs develop.

At 32 weeks + 4 days, at 9:00 a.m. my contractions were coming about 10 minutes apart. They put me on a fetal heartrate monitor. My daughter was born at 11:48 a.m. (after 20 minutes of pushing) at 4 lbs. - 10 oz. and 16 3/4 inches long.

She is now 2 years and 4 1/2 months old. She weighs 28 lbs and is caught up to other children her age.

I am now 29 weeks with my second pregnancy. So far, no sign of premature labor or anything. I am about 3 weeks away from when my daughter was born. I am hoping that I will make it passed that day with this pregnancy.
