My name is Karen and I have another sad story to add. After an uneventful 18 weeks of pregnancy, my bag of waters ruptured at 18 + 1, with a full loss of fluid. At the hospital they advised us that labor would probably begin within 72 hours, and that there was very little hope for maintaining the pregnancy. I went home to complete bedrest, and the leaking seemed to have stopped, but I started gushing fluid again nearly a week later. Our beautiful daughter Mary Margaret was stillborn 12/24/02 at 19 + 2. I was negative for infection, and this was my first pregnancy. Throughout my pregnancy I was very healthy except for pretty intense morning sickness for the first 16 weeks or so. (Morning sickness started for me about 10 days after conception - that's how we knew we were pregnant!)I had no cramping or back pain prior to the rupture. We had absolutely no warning. I was sound asleep when the rupture occurred. I never knew PPROM even existed before this happened. I am 35 years old, and I desparately want to be a mother, but now I am so afraid that this will happen again. The more research I do, the more it seems like I may have an IC. The OB and the midwife tell us that they don't know why this happened, that sometimes it "just happens". Our daughter was born with an abdominal wall defect, an omphalocele. We were gently told that perhaps nature was just correcting the situation, that our daughter may never have made it to term with her condition, but I am so afraid that there is a problem with me and that the PPROM and the omphalocele are not related. Finding this board is a blessing, and I welcome any information my fellow PROM Queens have to share. We are considering trying to conceive again starting in May, but I want to be as educated as possible before we risk losing another precious baby.
