Judy's PROM Story

By Judy, Otsego, MN USA
PROM at 18 weeks + 3 days. Delivery at 19 weeks + 6 days.
Story added: 2000-09-17
My water broke last Sunday night at 18wks 3 days. It is now 19weeks 3 days. The baby is still alive and I can feel it move. My doctor says the baby doesn't have enough fluid for the lungs to develop. He feels if I can keep the baby alive, it will be born and won't be able to breathe and will die within 20 minutes.

My husband wants me to let them induce labor and give up. After all, it doesn't seem to make sense to prolong the trauma if the baby won't survive anyway.

Or does it?

sept 23:
After 10 days of bedrest, and constant leaking, there was still no fluid. On Tuesday I was dilated and part of the sac was hanging in my vagina according to the doctor.

I wanted there to be hope, but it seemed futile at that point. They took the baby on Tuesday. God didn't answer what I prayed for the most. But he did answer another prayer for me.. that I wouldn't have to make that decision. They told me at that time that it wasn't "elective" any more.
