Shelly's PROM Story

By Shelly Ross, Mission, BC Canada
PROM at 19 weeksDelivery at 34 weeks + 5 days.
Story added: 2000-10-25
Hello everyone!!!

First i would Like to thank all my PROM friends Katrina, Linda and many others for caring enough to offer me hope and encouragement in pretty rough times. Well I am still hanging in they are calling me a miracle. Still heavy leaking and bleeding everyday but 33wks 4 days and still going.

Well I have had two four day stays in the hospital since 24
weeks and a rush ride in a helicopter ambulance to BC Womens
Hospital but baby seems healthy and is gaining weight and
growing normally. Last check at 31 weeks had baby at 4lbs.
Fluid was next to nothing but I go through a box of super
absorbant napkins in a day so this is not surprising. I had a bit of a breakdown on last visit to the hospital as I am pretty tired of hearing how high risk I am, and how I will never get to my next appointment from doctors and nursing staff. Due to this they will be inducing me by 36 weeks if I have not gone into labour. I have also developed severe gestational diabetes which can effect baby's lungs as well as prom in addition to the baby being large and having a more difficult time at birth. For the record I am on over 300 units of insulin (by injection ) per day. I am very thankful for all of your letters and support my friends. I will update my story with pictures after the birth.

God bless you all and please keep me in your thoughts and
prayers as I enter the final leg of my journey. Wish me luck!!!

Update nov 19 2000
Well I am thrilled after Prom at 19 weeks till delivery, gestational diabetes, early previa she is here. 5lbs 2oz perfect baby girl. No problems, totally healthy apgars of 9 at birth. After a 6 day hospital stay just in case. we are home. Tia (Theresa Tia Dorothy) is a joy. I want to thank all of you for your support and sharing. I could not have made it with out you. Bless you all. If I can be of help or support to anyone please let me know I will stay in touch. Thank you once again.

And please remember to all the prom moms still hanging in. Don't let people get you down with statistics and potential negatives, although it is good to be aware, make sure these nasties don't become the focus of your pregnancy.
Be well
