Background information:

After a year of trying to get pregnant we conceived Oct 2009. I was on Clomid and started Progesterone suppositories immediately. I kept having pink spotting and went to a high risk doctor to be checked out. At 13 weeks I found out I had a 1cm SCH. I got put on bedrest at 16 weeks when the spotting did not stop. At 17 weeks and 5 days my water bag got a leak and I was diagnosed with pPROM. I was told to go to L&D and they were sorry that my baby would not make it. I was devastated and in shock. After I got there and found that my AFI was still within normal limits, my white blood cell count was high normal and that the baby was fine I just felt like we were going to make it. I was on HBR for a week and sent back home. The doctors were waiting for me to have a stillborn but God had other plans. I was put on strict bed rest for 2 months and then on modified until I delivered. At 36 weeks I started having high BP issues. I was monitored and checked and showed signs that I could be pre eclampic. Well the BP would go up and down and finally by my 38 weeks appointment it was time!

Birth Story:

On June 17th I was going to a follow up appointment with my doctor because on Monday I was sent to L&D due to high blood pressure. Well turns out L&D was supposed to be checking my BP with me sitting up and not laying down. When the doc found that out she was livid. She took my bp and it was 140/100 (my BP only went up when I was sitting up and walking around). She did my cervical check and I was still “sort of long and 3 cm”. She was sending me to L&D to be checked properly this time. After I got dressed and walked out the doc said, “She made the executive decision to go ahead and induce me tonight”. I was shocked, but so ready. We had our bags in the car just in case and headed over to L&D to be induced (If you are my friend on facebook you got the play by plays the entire time). Once we got there they hooked me up to the monitors and went to get the supplies to start my fluid, pitocin, antibiotics (Group B was positive) and some blood work. Well, the nurse looked at me and said, “Do you know you are having contractions 2 – 3 mins apart”? I was stunned and said I do not feel a thing. She took my blood and started the fluids and the antibiotics and my contractions were then 1 – 2 mins apart. She asked me again if I could feel them. I told her I do not feel a thing. All I was feeling was some pressure every now and then but it was once every 10 mins so I wasn’t paying that close of attention to them. Finally by 7 pm my water broke on it’s on. They started a slow drip pitocin and I started feeling my contraction. I really only felt a few rough ones before the epidural was in and I was feeling fine. The epidural ended up slowing down my contractions and labor and they said to get some sleep they would up the pitocin drip at 4 am. So, 4 am upped it and by 7 I was 10 cm ready to push. The doc came in and we started pushing. I only pushed a few times and she could tell due to my small pelvic bones that the baby would not fit. We were already sort of prepared for this because my family has big babies and a lot of them that tried to deliver vaginally had shoulder distosia (sp?). So, she asked if I wanted to keep pushing or go for the c section. I told her lets do the c section to be on the safe side. In 10 mins I was prepped and ready to go. 15 mins later my beautiful miracle baby, Evelin Grace, was born. It was June 18th 9:06 am. She weighed 8 lbs11 oz and was 19 inches longs. The doc was stunned on how big she was. We thought she was going to be around 7 lbs. Nope, not my porker lol! She scored a 9.9 on her APGAR (daddy still wants to know why she didn’t get a 10 lol). They let him hold her and let me play with her for a little bit while they stitched me back up. They took her back to the nursery and I went into recovery. They made me stay laying down all that day and my swelling got really bad. However, the next morning I was up walking around. I am still sore but can get around pretty well. My porker can down an oz of formula on her first day! I am trying to breastfeed, but she wants much more than I can give right now until my milk comes in. So, we have to supplement her for a bit. Her blood sugar was low the first day, at a 32, so that is another reason we have to supplement formula twice a day. Today her blood sugar was fine, she got her Hepatitis B shot, her PKU check, passed her hearing test and we get to go home tomorrow. It has been a very long and emotional pregnancy, but bed rest was worth every second of it. She is such a great baby and I am so happy we fought as hard as we did for this angel.
