By Kim, Amherst, NY U.S.I had the perfect pregnancy until 22w/6d when my water broke. My husband took me to the hospital only to have them tell me it wasn't amniotic fluid and discharge me. I knew deep down they were wrong so I made them test me again and it was positive this time.
PROM at 22 weeks + 6 days. Delivery at 26 weeks + 6 days.

They admitted me to the high risk pregnancy floor. That was my home so I could keep my babies baking. I was on strict bedrest, but was allowed up to go to the bathroom, take a shower every other day or so, and to get my daily sonograms to check fluid.
After 4 weeks I finally started having intense contractions that they couldn't stop. All I remember is them yelling and prepping me for a stat- section and waking up to my husband whispering "Good Morning Mommy". Twin A was born weighing 1 lb 14 oz, 13 1/2" long and Twin B at 2 lb 4 oz, 14" long.
Twin A was very sick because he was the one that was ruptured. His lungs were more like a 23-24 weeker. He needed to have a cocktail of stuff just to get him off the oscillator. He spent 99 days in the NICU.
Twin B wasn't as sick. He seemed to do exactly what the doctors had expected him to do. He spent 72 days in the NICU.
The boys are now almost 2 and happy, healthy toddlers. They were discharged from all specialists within 6 months after leaving the NICU. They did receive Early Intervention which helped them both tremendously. No problems to report...they are both pretty little, but to me they are the strongest little boys I've ever met.
