By Tina, Austin TX USAAwoke one nite at 30 weeks pregnancy feeling wet as water had broken without signs of PTL, then began having contractions, went to hospital, determined I had PPROM. Was on bedrest for 2 weeks, then abrupted/started bleeding slightly, was kept on bedrest, finally delivered natural delivery at 32 weeks 6 days, baby girl went to NICU 3 lbs 11 oz, did well, is beautiful healthy 3 year old now.
PROM at 30 weeks + 4 days. Delivery at 32 weeks + 6 days.

12 months later got pregnant again. Saw MFM (high risk OB), said progesterone would not help as I had PPROM without preceding PTL and risk of recurrence was low, so went thru pregnancy without progesterone. Made it slightly further in second pregnancy, then got rear-ended in bad car accident which triggered some contractions, water broke again 30 weeks 5 days, again abrupted and delivered by emergent C section at 33 weeks. Second baby girl weighted 4 lbs 1 oz at birth, is also doing well now.
Have found both pregnancies with prolonged hospital stays and prolonged NICU stays with each of the girls to be gut-wrenching. I am very grateful and thankful and look at my girls with amazement often. Although I would like to have a third child, fear of another PPROM/PTL with prolonged bedrest/NICU stay is difficult to risk/emotionally bear again.......
I am a physician (an arthritis doctor), and have spent lots of time in clinics and hospitals, but I still found the hospitalizations and NICU experiences to be overwhelming, needing a great deal of family support to make it thru. Reading positive stories on this website while on bedrest in the hospital was quite reassuring and heart-warming. I encourage others to do the same....
