Tracy's PROM Story

By Tracy, Herndon VA
PROM at 29 weeks + 1 days. Delivery at 31 weeks.
Story added: 2009-12-22
At about 29 weeks, I woke up early one morning and thought that I had wet the bed. I laughed, told my husband that I had heard that pregnant women lose control of their bladders and that it had finally happened and went back to sleep after cleaning up a bit. An hour later, I woke up in another puddle. Doctor confirmed the pProm.

I spent the next 13 days on fairly strict hospital bedrest (For the first 3 days, I was not allowed to get up to shower or use the bathroom). I wasn't in labor and my cervix was still nice and long.

13 days into my hospital stay (at 31 weeks 0 days), I woke up with mild cramping. I was in labor. A few hours later, I was having a c- section. My beautiful son Nathan was born -- 4 lbs 5 oz, which was huge for a baby this early.

Nathan was born breathing on his own, but was briefly on a ventilator. After about 4 days in the NICU, he was on room air, with no breathing help at all. He was in the NICU for 31 days, and we were spared most of the NICU rollercoaster.

Nathan is now 11 months old. He is doing great. Perhaps a little bit behind in his motor development, but he's crawling and talking (non specific words of course) up a storm.
