By Christy, WI United StatesMy husband and I knew we wanted kids from the start. By the time we decided we were ready and went off birth control, my father-in-law found out that he had lung cancer. We spent almost a year being stressed out, but still trying. After a year, we decided to see a doctor-not a fertility doctor, just a nurse in women's health. She diagnosed me with PCOS and prescribed us clomid. I took it for one month at the lowest dosage, and whatm! we were pregnant. It was the happiest day of my life! The doctor thought it was probably that the twins were natural since it was so quick on the clomid. At 9 weeks pregnant, we had a sonogram to check for multiples. I had a weird feeling the whole morning and when the sonogram started, my heart started pounding like crazy.
PROM at 21 weeks + 2 days. Delivery at 23 weeks + 3 days.

It was TWINS!
We spent the next few months doing what we do best-preparing. We got everything ready that we possibly could. LIned up daycare, got the nursery ready, and got our finances in order. Our 20 week sonogram was perfect. We found out we were having a boy and a girl-which was so perfect. They were measuring right on schedule, no visible problems. My morning sickness was finally gone. The only thing was a weird pressure and pulling I kept feeling down low.
Later that week, I sat down to use the bathroom and when I wiped there was what, if I didn't know better, was the mucous plug. It was clear, but definitely plug-like. Being my first pregnancy, I had no clue so I called the doctor. They didn't seem too concerned.
That was Tuesday. On Sunday night, I laid down to go to sleep and I heard and felt a gigantic POP! I knew right away this was not good.
We went to the hospital where they kept telling us that I would for sure go into labor.
They gave me antibiotics.
I waited. They told me I needed to get to 23 weeks at least so the babies would have a chance to survive.
I was there a week.
They sent me home, where I was another week until I went into labor.
I delivered the babies at 12:54 and 1:17. Baby A, the girl, had no fluid and was bruised. She died at 8:30 pm that night-she had a horrible infection. Baby B died the next morning at 10:30 am.
My placenta was sent to pathology and proven to have a horrible infection. There is no way to know if the infection came first or after the water broke.
I feel horrible and heart broken and wish much better luck to all those miracle babies and mommies out there.
