This was my first pregnancy and all was going well. It was a very uneventful pregnancy and all my tests and ultrasounds were normal. When I was 25 weeks, I remember during one particular day that it seemed like I had alot of discharge. I even had to change my underpants because they were so wet. But, being my first pregnancy, I didn\'t think it was abnormal. That night, I woke up around 1:00 am and thought I was urinating in bed. I thought maybe the baby was pressing on my bladder and was causing the urine to come out. So I got up to go to the bathroom, and in the hallway there was a gush of fluid that came out. Again, I still thought it was my bladder. So I went into the bathrooom, and when I was able to urinate in the toilet, I started wondering if what really had happened was that my water broke.

I called my sister and asked her what she thought and she said I needed to get to the hospital right away because I was going to have the baby. So I called my doctor and he also confirmed that it was my water that broke and that I needed to get to the hospital. After I got to the hospital, they told me I was having contractions and was 2 cm dilated already, so they gave me magnesium sulfate to stop the contractions, which it did. They then had to transfer me to a level 3 hospital that had an NICU.

I stayed on total bedrest in the hospital for 2 weeks on antibiotics. Then an infection set in and I went into labor, and had my daughter at 27 weeks weighing 2 lbs. 8 oz.

I am currently expecting our second child and had a cerclage put in at 13 weeks. My doctor suspects that what caused my PROM last time was that I have an incompetent cervix, so the cerclage is supposed to prevent my IC from causing me to dilate early again. So far everything is going well and I am currently 29 weeks pregnant. My doctor is fairly confident that I will be able to make it to 37 or 38 weeks, which is great news!!!
