By Anna, Newville, PA USAI was sound asleep when I awoke to a bed full of water. I woke my husband and told him I did not know what was happening. This was my first pregnancy. My husband thought well maybe the baby kicked your bladder and you peed. I didn’t think that was possible just due to the amount of liquid. I was still dripping when I stood up. It was about 2am and we got in the car to go to our little small town hospital. I was taken into the ER and moved up stairs to their labor and delivery. They did not have a NICU, but we where hoping it was not PROM but a bladder issue. The doctor on call showed up around 7:30AM. He did an ultrasound and confirmed my PROM. He then arranged to have me transported to the larger hospital about 30 minutes away. I took my ambulance ride and was there by noon. This is when I met the Maternal Fetal Medicine doctors. They monitored me for that night and the next day. I had no contractions was leaking heavily and was hoping for a long hospital stay. The finally decided I wasn’t going into labor and to move me to a long term room. I was in the room for about 30 minutes and when I got up to use the rest room (which they said was ok) my little girl’s foot came through my cervix, and I felt it with my hand. I called the nurse. She said she didn’t see it. She called the doctor, and she looked and confirmed she seen the foot. They moved me back to labor and delivery and said they must induce due to risk of infection to both baby and me. The baby was breach and only 22 weeks and a few days. She had no chance coming so soon. We named her Grace Marie and spent a few hours with her after she passed away while being born. Grace Marie was born and died January 16th 2005. She was 12 inches long and 1 pound 3 oz.
PROM at 22 weeks + 2 days. Delivery at 22 weeks + 3 days.
