By Esther, River Forest, IL USAThis is my 2nd loss to PPROM. My water broke both times while I was sleeping. I felt nothing to warn me. Everything had been normal with both pregnancies until then. With our son, my water broke at 20 weeks, and I delivered Rey alive at 21.5 weeks (1/24/02). He lived for about 15 minutes. We had a chance to hold him and tell him we loved him and just cry together as we held our son. With our daughter, Sofia, my water broke at 19w 5d and I delivered her stillborn at 20w 1d (8/25/04). I'm grateful I was able to baptize her in utero, before we lost her.
PROM at 19 weeks + 5 days. Delivery at 20 weeks + 1 days.

The doctors have no explanation as to why this happened -- either time. We feel lost and hurt, and really scared to ttc again. Not sure we'll ever find the strength and courage to do so, but then again, I don't think I'll ever feel complete if I don't have a baby.
I don't remember how we got through it the first time. Losing Sofia has just brought back all the heartache from losing Rey -- and then some.
