Here is my story. We conceived in March of 04 and found out in May that we were expecting twins. We were not only surprised, but just so happy beyond belief. We never even discussed the chances. From that moment on, my life was consumed with babies, as I'm sure most women's are during pregnancy. Everything was going fine, the only hiccup was that they did see a fibroid during a routine ultrasound, but were not concerned by it, and just said they would monitor it. Well, at around 10 weeks, I had a gush of fluid that I swore was my water breaking, so the next day, went it and had an ultrasound. There was fluid in there and the Dr. said "everything is fine" (I will never be comforted by those words again). So, at 14 weeks, I went in for a routine exam, and they could only find one heartbeat, so went in for an ultrasound. To my horror, there was only one baby left, my body actually absorbed almost all of the other baby except the spine. We were horrified, but again reassured that everything was perfect with the other baby, so we focused our attention to our other healty baby and life went on. (even though deep down inside, i knew my water broke, but my Dr. wouldn't confirm that). So about 2 weeks later, on July 3rd, sitting at home, my water broke. I knew 100% what it was and we rushed to the hospital, to only have confirmation that that was the case. Our baby was defintely alive and moving around, but there was barely any fluid left. So, I was admitted to AntePartum and was on an IV for infection and bedrest for 4 days to see if the fluid would re- juevenate. It did not and there was no hope at all. There was also the severe risk of infection. So, on July 7th at 4:00pm I started to be induced and delivered our baby boy on July 8th at 5:51am. It has been 4 1/2 weeks since delivery and there are no answers. Most Doctors say it was just a fluke. I never developed an infection. So, in a few months we will try again. Although emotionally, I am not sure when I'll be ready. I miss my baby boy so much. I am currently scheduled to see a specialist to see if my fibroid could have been the cause of my PROM. At this point, that is the only answer.
