By Dusti Achziger, spokane, wa spokaneI was 16 weeks when i found out i was pregnate with twins and they saw that my twins were identical twins with there own sacks, and they had twin to twin transfusion syndrome. baby a was the donor and baby b was the recipient.that is were baby a donates most of the oxygenated blood and nutrients to baby b, and baby a had to little amniotic fluid and baby b had to much amniotic fluid. the dr. had told me that the sevirity of the situation would probably end up in sponataiouse abortion due to baby a dieing inutero. but for the bennafit of baby b we would take the pregnancy to the end. at 19 weeks i woke up for a drink of water and as i was walking to the kitchen i had realized a sm gush of fluid. at the time i was living in clarkston wa and have to drive to the lewiston id hospital, there they had told me it wasn't my water it was feminen discharged, boy was i embaressed.they had came to that conclusion by rubbing a sample of the water on one of thoose tests to see if it crystalizes, and it didn't. then at 19 weeks i had to go to spokane to see the parinatoligist and during the ultrasound the dr. had noticed that baby a's water was even lower than before and i had told her what had happened in clarkston and she had said that the hospital should have known that this early in the pregnancy there is not enough salt in the amniotic fluid for it to crysatlize so there for there reasonings were wrong, to send me home with out saying it was a possibility. but i was lucky becouse most women go into labor within the first 72 hours. and had estimated that my water broke around 17 weeks. and we would still continue to wate an see what happens with the pregnacy. and i was put on bedrest at home untill my twins were at a viable gestation then i would be put on bedrest in the hospital. so at 23 weeks i was put in the hospital. i had the normal contractions occasionally with procartia and terb shots, then at 33 weeks baby b started to go into a little stress so they told me on october 24th 2002 that i had an hour to get my husband an family there in an hour becouse i was having a c-section. my twins were due till dec. 9th 2002. so 7 weeks early at 1:07p baby a mataiah hope was born weighing 1# 15oz and at 1:10p baby b kiyah faith was born weighing 4# 12oz, mataiah was born and not breathing they had intabated her and rushed her to the nicu, kiyah just needed a little blow by and i said hi to her then they rushed her to the nicu. mataiah's first apgar score was 4 and kiyah's was 7. mataiah had hypoplastic lungs contactures in all her joints club feet an apparent neuro problems due to some kind of brain injury inutero,we wont know the severity untill she is older, kiyah was born with a double aortic right arch vascilar ring, wich means she grew 2 aortas and instead of them growing up and to the left like normal they grew to the right and one of them had a ligament that grew and connected them together and her trachia and esophagus were in the middle so as she grew the were getting ristricted, she was released from the nicu at a month old not knowing this, she came home on an apnia monitor becouse she had apnic spells along with high blood pressure, pulmonary stinosis, and 2 holes in her heart where it is shunting the oxygenated blood to the unoxygenated blood wich if there are no problems she wont have to have surgery to fix them till she is 2.she had the ring repaired when she was 2months. mataiah didn't come home till she was 8months and she came home with a trach, g-tube, and oxygen, she was on the vent untill she was 7 months and still requires c-pap occasionaly they are 15 months now and mataiah still has everything and has had 7 surgerys and is going for her 8 in march 2004 to fix her feet her development is that of a 1-5 month old and weighing 19# she just kinda hangs out and can roll over, i have never heard her voice due to the trach and she has never had a bottle everything is still pushed threw her feeding tube in her stomach and she still cant breathe without oxygen, but other than that my miracle baby that was suppose to die inutero is here and trotin along. kiyah is walkin and talkin and actin like a tipical one year old who thinks she is allready in her terible 2 stage.lol. and we find out ion march also when she has her second heart surgery.
