By Tameka Curry, Atlanta, Georgia United StatesThe first nine weeks of my pregnancy was very normal. In my tenth week of pregnancy I notice some spotting. My doctor order an ultrasound and found everything to be normal. The pregnancy continued as expected until my thirteen week when I notice a beige discharge and pain in my inner thighs and back. I rested for a day and since I felt better returned to my normal activities. However the next day I woke up bleeding. I went to the ER and was diagnosed with an infection. I was given antibiotics and sent home since baby's heart rate was strong and my cervix was closed. Again I rested until I could see my normal doctor. When I went to her office she examine me and decided to switched my antibiotics, ordered an ultrasound and put me on bed rest until further notice. The ultrasound again found no abnormalities or concerns so I was sent home to rest. A week passed putting me now in my fifthteen week of pregnancy. I felt fine especially after being on the antibiotics, but then one night I worked up to charlie horse pain in my lower abdomen. I took Tylenol and it passed about twenty minutes later. The next day I was well and enjoyed the day resting. Unfortunately the next morning I awoke again with the same pain, but this time it was accompanied with a "pop" and a gush of water down my leg. My husband and I rushed to labor/delivery where they confirmed my water had broken and prepared us for the worst. I was admitted into the hospital to await the arrival of our son. It was a long week and I was eventually sent home since I showed no signs of infection. A couple of days later while watching a movie with my mom I started bleeding and early the next morning Brandon Raymond was born.

My placenta was sent for testing and an infection was found but it is believed to be a result of my water breaking.
My husband and I desperately missed our little boy, but are hopeful to trying again some day. While he is very confident everything will go well I am still a little leery. I would love to hear the stories of successful pregnancies after PROM, so feel free to email me anytime.
