Sharon's PROM Story

By Sharon Mashford, Adelaide,South Australia Australia
PROM at 19 weeksDelivery at 23 weeks.
Story added: 2003-05-21
At 18 weeks I started to bleed quite heavy, we rushed to the hospital, where they kept me in doing every test going. They eventually found that baby and I were fine but I had lost the twin very early on, hense we never knew there was 2.
At 19 weeks I gushed bloody liquid everywhere, back at the hospital they told me it was my waters breaking and I would more than likely go into labour within 72 hours, baby wouldn't make it.
Every third day we had an ultrasound, but there was never any fluid, although baby was healthy in every other way we could find.
The doctors kept telling us we should terminate the pregnancy, but we didn't feel right.
At 23 weeks, we had had enough. I had 3 little children at home to look after aswell, so it all got to me. We had an ultrasound, where baby Emily was really squashed, then went and delivered her, by induction.
She was born alive but died 2 minutes after birth. We were told that it was more than likely the other twins fault, it possibly infected the sac.
Emilys whole story is at www.babiesonline.com/babies/m/mashy if anyone is interested.
