My wife had a PROM on Wednesday evening. We went to a hospital immediately and were put on a protocol where they try to delay/stop the labor to give injected steroids time to work with lungs development. After two days of no labor, we were moved from the labor ward to a regular room and stayed under observation. We wanted to go home but we were advised not to go because from time to time my wife would have a small fever or blood results were pointing to some sort of infection (only CRP was elevated but below 20, rest of the blood markers was fine). Because this is in Singapore, my wife was administered a standard set of antibiotics as a precaution throughout our stay. We stayed in hospital and my wife was receiving antibiotics first orally and then through IV injections and then orally again. CRP marker was slowly going down to 17..16 then 14 then it leveled around 10-11. My wife was leaking a little bit of water all the time, she had no contractions and the baby was fine (they monitored the baby's heart right and contractions 3x times a day). My wife stayed in bed and did not move much the whole time. After 15 days my wife was feeling fine but she had a small fever and the doctor pressed us again to do the emergency c-section, we decided to do it. During the c-section, they discovered that a knot formed in the umbilical cord, it was not very tight yet so the baby was getting all the nutrients and oxygen supply anyway. Our little lion came out healthy, 2240 grams, and got a 10/10 is aspar score. It stayed in NICU for 5 days due to prematurity but had no issues whatsoever. Fortunately, our boy was alright so they did not administer any antibiotics to him but they were ready in case of any early signs of residual infection. (we know how bad these antibiotics can be for his gut...) Apart from a little bit of jaundice, the baby is growing very fast, it is 5 weeks old now and is catching up quickly (3660 grams now). The jaundice is caused by breast milk and should clear in 1-2 months. We also give him vit. D and iron (because of his blood results). We are breast pumping and doing feeding by a bottle because latching was an issue from the beginning, also bottle-feed helps us to know exactly how much our baby eats. What caused PROM? we don't know for sure but my wife had quite intense days leading to PROM. She had a coffee and right after walked for 15 mins in Singaporean heat on that day (her BP was high on that day). She had some throat pain because of air-con the whole day too. She also had a nap in a strange position on a couch right before PROM.
