By Shan, Calgary. AB CanadaI had fluid leaking after returning to bed after using the washroom at 6am. I thought that was odd. Not a lot, but I just peed, so it couldn't be that. Little bits continued to leak out and I went to the my nearest hospital (40 minute drive) and headed to L & D. As I walked into the hospital, more fluid gushed out and soaked my pants. It was immediately determined that it was amniotic fluid, and I got a steroid shot and was started on antibiotics and a flight was arranged to send me to the nearest level 3 NICU. Ultrasound showed baby was head down. My husband had to make the 3 hour drive to this hospital, so he got there later in the afternoon. At the second hospital, I was dilated about a cm but no signs of labour. They wouldn't stop labour but they wouldn't start it either. They goal was 34 weeks if possible. We made it through the night on the FST, it was rough, but we did it and I got the second steroid shot. I stayed the next 6 days on the IV and then pills and then was released to the Ronald McDonald house. A nurse checked on me once a day with the FST and I was to take my temperature to check for signs of infection etc. On the 13th day after my waters broke I went into labour during the evening and our son was born. He scored 8 out of 10 on the apgars and was a feeder and a grower in the NICU his whole time there. After 7 weeks we brought him home, 3 1/2 weeks before his due date! Now he's almost 19 months old and the neatest little person we know.
PROM at 27 weeks + 5 days. Delivery at 29 weeks + 3 days.
