L 's PROM Story

PROM at 20 weeksDelivery at 27 weeks + 3 days.

I was pregnant with B/G twins. Had a small SCH around week 13 that dissapated a week or two later. On January 1st, I woke up in the middle of the night with a trickle dripping down my leg, it happened again that day, and we went to the ER. They confirmed it was a rupture, although both sacs still had normal fluid levels. We were advised to consider terminating the entire pregnancy as we would go into labor and both babies would not survive. About a week later I had a very heavy bleed, but AFI still looked ok and babies were ok. One week later, we realized my son had the leak as he now showed low fluid, and were advised to terminate him in order to try to optimize our daughter's chance for survival. We were told that we had until 23 weeks 5 days (the legal abortion timeframe in NY) to make the decision. I remained on strict bedrest, just getting up to shower and bathroom. I drank a ton of water and ate very healthy. I was given a 10 day course of oral antiobiotics and to complicate things I was + for group B. My AFI levels were 0.8-2.8 until I delivered. We could not terminate our son and wanted to give them a chance, and were admitted to the hospital at 23.5. I had magnesium, IV antibiotics, and steriods at that time. For the most part, my hosptial stay was uneventful. At 27w, out of the blue, i felt a leak, i went to the bathroom and a huge amount of blood was pouring out of me (so much they thought the babies could have been in the toilet). Have never been so scared in my life... I went to L&D and was given another course of steriods and mag. Things calmed down and I managed to hold the kids in for 3 more days, but we knew it was getting close. Labor was a blur, we went from back pains to an emergency csection in just a matter of minutes. Both babies could breathe at delivery and did not need to be intubated. They went directly on CPAP and had a relatively steady course in the NICU. My daughter came home after 73 days and my son, after 102 days. They are perfectly health 18 month old toddlers now. My son probably has mild asthma, but Ill take that any day. Have faith, be positive, be in the hospital when they will admit you (I know this is hard for some of you), drink tons of water and keep yourself busy. God bless. Thank you for this website for giving us hope. Hoping my story will do the same for others.
