I found out that I was pregnant in the emergency room. I awoke that morning with severe abdominal pains. The doctor did a blood test and determined that I was pregnant. I was absolutely thrilled. Unfortunately he thought I had an ectopic pregnancy so he did laparascopic surgery. Fortunately I had an ovarian cyst that had burst and that was what was causing the pain. I had two more cyst burst the next week, but everything was fine with the baby. At a routine prenatal checkup my doctor discovered that I had uterine-cervical cancer. I had to have a minor surgery at 16 weeks to determine how advanced the cancer was.

Fortunately it was only stage I and my oncologist said he would monitor the cancer every month and possibly deliver my baby girl early and then do a hysterectomy. We began constant prayers and had strong faith that everything was going to be alright. Unfortunately I got an infection from the surgery and my water broke at 18 weeks. I didn't go into labor. I was put on IV antibiotics and bedrest with bathroom privileges. We were all hoping that she would make it to at least 24 weeks. At 20 weeks I stopped feeling her move and an ultrasound determined that she had died. Labor was induced and seven hours later, on Nov. 29, 1999 my beautiful, precious daughter, Faith Caprice, was silently born.

Our hearts are broken and our lives have been devastated by this tragedy. She is our only child and we will always miss her. I look forward to the day that I can hold her again in heaven.
