Susan's PROM Story

Story added: 2001-11-24
After 3 years and 8 miscarriages, medications and surgeries, we were pregnant with twins. We were so happy. We were very scared but so hopeful. After we reached 14 weeks, we thought we were in the clear. On Febuary 27, 2001, at 21 weeks and 2 days, I woke up very wet. I woke my husband and told him that I was so wet. He said I probably got to the point were I couldn't "hold it in" anymore. We called the dr. It was 6am. He felt it was probably urine also but told me to come in at his first appointment at 8am. I went to the bathroom and had a huge bladder! I was really getting concerened. I went to get some clothes from my closet to take a shower and there went the pop. A gush of water came out. I screamed. My husbabd called the dr back and he said to get me to the hospital ASAP. My parents were at my house because my husbands grandfather died and the funural was the day before. Thank god my family was there! We got to the hospital and I can feel the water dripping out. My dr was there and examined me. I could see the babies on the ultrasound moving around. It was heart breaking. We were told that the babies had no chance of survival if they were born. As long as I didn't go into labor we were going to see how long we can keep the babies inside without endangering me or the babies. I had to stay in the hospital with daily sonograms, NST, blood tests, temperature and blood pressure taking, but most of all, strict bedrest with no privliages at all. We were going to to keep thses babies in as long as we could. Making a long story shorter, I went into pre term labor at 26 weeks in which they stopped the contractions with that wonderful drug Magnesium. I had contractions daily. Finally, on April 6, 2001 after 27 hours of hard, pain medication free, labor I had a c-section and delivered Ilisa Nicole at 2 pounds 5 ounces 15 inches long and Dean Paul at 2 pounds 2 ounces and 14 inches.I was 28 weeks and 1 day. There was no cry heard but I did get to see them before they went to NICU. We experienced 10 1/2 weeks of a living rollercoaster. We brought Ilisa and Dean home on June 17, 2001 on Father's Day! No mediations, just vitamins!
They are now 7 1/2 months old and doing great. They are rolling over, laughing, and happy. My son just broke his first tooth on Thanksgiving Day.
I hope this story will inspire anyone that is going through this now. It was such a horrible road but the outcome was worth it. Please, keep your faith and strength because miracles DO happen!
