By Margaret Seeley, Romulus, MI USAI have had two children at 24 weeks due to my PROM. My water broke with my son at 22 weeks and I was able to keep his in for two weeks. He weighed 1lb 14 oz and was 13 1/2 in long. They ran antibotics through me and keep me on bed rest. I also received steriod shots which helped his lungs develope. He did have some intestional problems and we almost lost him a couple of times, but he is perfectly heathly today. With my second child I was much more careful during my pregnancy. I had no signs like with my son, no back pain or frequent urination, nothing. I woke up and my water had broke and I was almost 24 weeks, I was only able to keep her in 2 days. Her lungs were not developed enough, she had holes in her bronchical tubes. With everything that my husband and I had gone through with my son it made it a little easier to let her go. I did not want to see her suffer and there was nothing we could do. I don't think I would have understood that if I wouldn't of had my son. She only weighed 1lb 6 oz and was 13 inches long. Although we feel a loss for our daughter we feel blessed to have our son.
PROM at 23 weeks + 5 days. Delivery at 24 weeks.
