By Shannon, Gainesville, GA USAWith this pregnancy, it seemed as though I was in and out of the hospital constantly with problems ranging from dehydration (I had to be put on medication to help hold food down) to spotting. At 24 weeks, I went into labor. My labor was able to be stopped after 2 shots. Then, at 33 weeks one day at work, I felt a trickle. At first I thought I had wet myself! But when I went to the bathroom and it didn't stop, I knew my water had broken. I left work, picked my son up from daycare, took him where he would be while I was in the hospital, and finally took myself to the hospital and called my husband. It took a couple of hours before contractions started. They were not very strong, but I could definately feel them. My doctor was going to start steroid shots to help the baby's lungs mature faster, but when he did an ultrasound to see if I had enough fluid for the baby, he realized the baby was breech. At that point, I was already dialated to around 6, so they had to do an emergency C-Section. My baby boy was born minutes later weighing in at 4 pounds, 9 ounces. He wasn't breathing when he came out, so they had to help hiim and immediately start all kind of tubes in him. I was so scared. I thought I was going to lose my baby. He was kept in the NICU for a month. He had many problems in the beginning - both lungs collasped (at different times), apnea, ect. I was able to breast feed him after 2 weeks. It was wonderful. He is now almost 3 and is actually big for his age! Noone would guess he's a preemie! I am now pregnant with our 3rd child. I am currently 34 weeks (I am nervous, but releived because I am already 1 week past when I delivered the last one!) . I am hoping and praying that even if my water does break, I am at least 37 weeks (only 3 more weeks to go!) along. I am also nervous about having a VBAC- Vaginal Birth After Cesarian. My doctor thinks all will go well, but I am still nervous.
