By Jessica, Toronto, ON CanadaI was at work on a conference call when my water broke suddenly. I took a cab to the hospital, sitting on a newspaper, and was admitted to the high risk unit where I spent the next week on bed rest (reading PROM stories on this page!)
PROM at 29 weeks + 5 days. Delivery at 30 weeks + 6 days.
Story added: 2011-02-03
My amniotic fluid leaked continuously throughout the week and by the morning of the eighth day I was in labour. My first child was born by c-section at term, but I was able to deliver this baby vaginally as he was so small.
He was born weighing 3 lbs 11 oz, which is apparently quite heavy for his gestational age. He spent only 3 days in the level 3 NICU and was then moved to the stepdown unit at another hospital where he ended up staying for another 8 weeks.
He had some gastro issues (bloody poops) but was otherwise healthy throughout his stay in hospital, where he learned to nurse with gusto.
My little guy is now 15 months old and seems to be doing marvelously. He is in daycare, has been very healthy and does not have any obvious developmental issues - walking and talking on schedule. He's on the small size for his chronologic age, but he's still got time to catch up and it may be that he's just a small guy.
Just wanted to share my story as I very much enjoyed the stories on this site when I was in the hospital on bed rest.
