My husband and I tried to concieve for 8
long years before our success with our
3rd IVF. My pregnancy was never horribly
uncomfortable, in fact I was only sick
one time, I rarely threw up, I felt full
of energy, and soo soo happy. But my
pregnancy was plagued with other hazards
such as unexplained bleeding at 5 wks, a
tear in my placenta at 9 wks (which
healed itself with lots of bedrest), an
incompitent cervix at 23 wks. My cervix
dialted to a 4 and I had to have a
cerclage. (More bedrest). Then at 27
weeks my water broke. all in all I spent
20 weeks of my 34 week pregnancy on
bederest either at home or in the
hospital.
My husband and I chose to have our
son's birth Induced at 37 weeks
gestation on January 20th 2000, but our
son had a mind of his own and decided to
start this millenium with a bang. My
labor started on it's own and the dr.
chose not do induce because my membranes
had been ruptured for 7 wks.
Kyle Andrew Yankee was born New Years
Day at 3:35 in the morning! My labor
went really fast. It was about 10pm by
the time I realized THIS IS IT!
My contractions didn't hurt too much
but I was having back labor and with
every contraction his head was pressed
into my spine THAT HURTS SO MUCH! I had
an epidural at 2am just a light dose I
could still feel and move my legs freely
feel every contraction, but it relieved
the back labor :)
I was a happy girl!
*L* I dialated quickly, from 2 to 6 in
one hour, then from 6 to 10 in one hour.
Kyle was in the birth canal for a while,
while we were waiting for the dr. to
arrive (as you can imagine the place was
hopping) when the dr. arrived I started
pushing, it only lasted 10 min...I
pushed 3 times with each contraction and
by the end of the third contraction Kyle
was born!
He was blue and didn't cry, it scared
me...but they got him going..his apgar
at 1 min was a 6 and at 5 min it was a
9. I got to hold him and see his
beautiful face before they took him to
the NICU.
He is still there, and although I am
being discharged in the morning he will
need to stay at least a week (I've been
crying over leaving him all day) He is
doing well though, breathing all on his
own with just a small tube under his
nose to give him some extra oxygen. They
say he needs to stay until he can
maintain a good oxygen level on his own
and is eating well.
He is not breast feeding yet, though we
try each time to give him the breast,
then the bottle and finally end up tube
feeding him. He does suck a pacifier, so
I am confident he will be eating from
either my breast or a bottle soon.
Kyle has SO MUCH HAIR! and it is all a
very light blonde. I don't know what
color eyes he has (mine are blue
daddy's are brown) I'm sure he has the
newborn blue eyes that most caucasion
babies do, but who knows he doesn't
open them often and when he does it's
just the tiniest bit. He weight 6lbs 3oz
and was 20 1/2 inces long. His dad says
he has huge feet! :)
I'm sure he will be taller than me by
junior high! He has my hairline and
Dad's chin, the rest we will have to
figure out as we go along.
I'm the happiest mom in the world. I
always told Ken this baby was going to
opinionated (all the pregnancy
complications and him wanting to get
here so soon) We had, had his induction
scheduled for Jan 20th, but Kyle decied
that he wasn't going to let anyone else
choose his birthday, he was going to DO
IT HIMSELF! *L* and boy did he pick a
great one!
Now at 2 days old Kyle is doing very
well, He is on less oxygen every time I
visit the NICU, he is alternating
between breast bottle and tube feeding
and seems to latch on very well although
he doesn't have the energy to eat as
much as he needs so we suppliment with
tube feeding. The dr.'s say he can go
home when he is maintaining his own
oxgyn level, and eating without tube
feedings to suppliment (they are hopeful
he will go home within a week).
Happy New Year and good luck to you all!
Love Jen, Ken and Kyle
