I woke up very early, waiting for my
husband to come home from working
overtime, at 7am. When I got up, I felt
wet, nothing major, but enough to upset
me. I tried to play it off, but realized
there was a problem, since my first son
had been born early due to PROM. But I
was only hitting my 23rd week!! After
calling my OB, I was advised to come
immediately to the hosptial. Upon
confirmation that my membranes had
ruptured, they gave me three choices:
1. go on Magnesium Sulfate, which at
this stage of my pregnancy, 7 out of 10
women deliver within the first week,
(not too good, huh? lol)
2. let Nature takes its course
3. evacuate the womb..
(ugh.. that makes me sick...)
So, after feeling my little one kicking
and struggling inside of me, i chose the
delightful drug...
After 5 glorious weeks of sleeping
sitting up each and every nite, since i
would leak if i laid down... remaining
in the hospital, and missing my 4 year
old and husband terribly, I felt strong
pains. Although no one believed me, and
the fetal monitor showed no
contractions, I was finally able, at 7
am, to make a phone call to my DR., and
scream for him to come and see me..!!! I
had been in labor since 9pm the nite
before. They tried to give me the
MagSulfate, but it was too late.
Infection had set in, and I
had to have an emergency C-Section.
Although, I tried in vain to brave that
delightful Epidural, they got me,,, but
it didnt work. I was so afraid to be
knocked out, knowing the chances for my
babies survival werent great, but it was
a necessary evil. All I remember was the
resident, who had become my best friend
after 5 weeks, promising me that he
would remain by my side.. and when I
woke up, he was holding my hand, telling
me I had delivered a 2 lb, 10 oz baby
boy. All I kept asking him was..
Is he alive?
-Well, 2 1/2 years later.. he is
delicious!! Although I will be bringing
him for speech therapy, I consider
myself very lucky to have a healthy
child.
