I know you are supposed to post
seperate pregnancies seperate but to
fully understand this one I must give
some info on my first pregnancy.
During my first pregnancy I was
carrying a baby with no chance of
life. I was stalling preparing for
her death. I finally got my labor
suitcase ready and took it with me to
my OB appointment at 33 weeks. I also
took a special hospital tour that
day. It was that day I found out she
had passed and delivered the next
day.
With this pregnancy everything was
going well except two episodes of
bleeding. One in the first trimester
due to intercourse and the other in
late second trimester because I
overtaxed myself at Disneyland's 50th
Anniversary.
I toured the hospital (a different
one) on a Saturday all excited for a
delivery in the following month. My
husband and I did a dry run and packed
my labor suitcase and took it with
us.
Apparently packing my suitcase and
touring a hospital causes me to
deliver.
I returned home and at 6 o'clock that
evening I woke up from a nap, went to
the bathroom, and sat down at the
computer. A felt a gush and thought I
peed myself. It didn't stop. I took
out my books and read about how to
tell the difference between urine and
amniotic fluid. It didn't smell like
urine. I was excited and called my
OB. I couldn't get a hold of him and
knew he would send me to the hospital
anyway. I went to the same hospital I
originally delivered at knowing she
may need special care.
They talked about keeping me pregnant
until 37 weeks but when they checked
me about 5 hours after my water broke
I was already dilated 5 cm. They then
explained to me that the NICU team
would be present at my delivery and
she probably would be in the NICU
until "term."
I delivered and the NICU team
initially denied her meaning she was
to go home in 2 days. My husband and
I were excited. She went home and we
experienced a glorious 28 hours before
she went completely unresponsive. I
called 911. The paramedics came and
would not transport. She aroused by
then. They even made us believe we
were over protective parents and that
nothing was wrong. We did not listen
to them and transported her
ourselves.
We took her to the special Pediatric
ER of the Children's Hospital adjoined
to the hospital I delivered at. She
was cyanotic upon admission with a
rectal temperature of 93 degrees due
to sepsis. She had pneumonia,
possibly because we live at high
elevation and delivered at low
elevation. Her bilireuban levels were
so high they were talking about a
blood transfusion. Luckily she didn't
need one because she responded well to
the bili lights. She stopped having
the ability to suck, swallow, and
breath at the same time and had to be
on TPN and then gavaged. She had
episodes of apnea and bradycardia.
She was admitted into the NICU where
she stayed until gestational age of 39
weeks.
I am happy to report that she is now
healthy and happy.
