I wondered for months how my PROM
story would end. I went to this web
site often during my ordeal and it
gave me a lot of information and
hope. I hope that some day our story
may help some else. I was pregnant
with twins, a boy and girl. I started
bleeding almost immediately after
conception. I was put on modified
bedrest at 12 weeks. At 17 weeks the
membranes ruptured on my baby girl's
sac. She continued to leak constantly
and never reaccumulated any fluid. I
did not go into labor, and my cervix
remained long and closed. I was
fortunate to already be under the care
of a high risk OB. After much
deliberating we decided to try to keep
her in there as long as possible to
buy both of the babies more time. At
24 weeks I was admitted to the
hospital and given steroids. At 25
weeks I went into labor and delivered
my beautiful baby girl. She lived for
about 2 hours, but her lungs were just
too tiny to support her. My doctors
performed an interval delivery, so
immediately after delivering the baby
girl they placed a cerclage and put me
on Magnesium Sulfate to stop labor.
It worked, I stayed pregnant and in
the hospital until 30 weeks, at 32
weeks I delivered a healthy baby boy.
He weighed 4 lbs and was in the NICU
for only 2 weeks. He is now a healthy
14 lb., 5 month old. Our story is
bittersweet, we have an amazing boy,
but lost our precious girl. Through
our daughter's strength and then the
interval delivery my boy was able to
stay in utero for 15 weeks after the
PROM of his twin. I wish none of us
were at this web site, but remember
there is hope. Get educated and find
the most qualified doctors in your
area to deal with you and your
pregnancy.
