Hi everyone,
For the last twenty weeks I always
wondered what type of story I would
write here. For the sake of myself and
the sake of adding yet another hopeful
story I was praying it would be a
positive one. I am estatic to say and
more grateful to God that my baby
survived not a mark from our long PROM
situation with low fluid throughout.
On Sept. 25th I went for an
amniocentesis when the doctor
immediately ruptured my membranes. By
the end of the procedure the fluid had
probably decreased by half and she
covered it up by telling me when I left
I had some sort of problem that doesnt
even exist. To make a long story short I
finally found the best doctor in Kuwait
who took care of me from then on. My
fluid levels until week 23 were always
around two. It wasnt actually until week
23 that I felt the fluid come out
because before that it would hold
between the amnionic sac and the
chorionic sac and just got absorbed into
my body. At week 21 my doctor bravely
tried to do the 'amniopatch' procedure
for his first time under the guidance of
Dr. Rueben Quintero. However
unsuucessful for a number of reasons
beyond our control. By 23 weeks my
doctor decided to hospitalise me after
my first huge leak which dropped my
fluid levels down to 1.7. From then on I
had weekly scans, cultures and courses
of antibiotics. My leaking increased as
baby made more fluid. The most I ever
had was probably about 8, then would
drop to 2 or 3 and sometimes 1. I had
several scares of going to labor room ,
as toward the end blood started
accompanying the fluid. All this time
every scan I had showed a perfectly
growing baby, as well as daily NST's and
5x daily heart checks.
I tried to push my doctor to 36 weeks
but he felt we had pushed it long enough
and we compromised at delivering him at
35.1 wks.
So on Feb. 11 early morning off I went
for my elective C. I cant even describe
how afraid I was. How many doctors tried
to convince me to have an epidural but I
insisted I would not be able to hold up
if something was wrong with my baby. So
they backed down. However my doctor did
video the birth for me. The next thing I
knew I awoke to the voice of the
anesthesiologist telling me my baby was
fine and that he weighed 6lbs. 3ozs.
Five months of tremedous stress just
fell off me.
My beatiful son is now 4 days old and
out of his isolette and into a regular
bassinett. After his initial assesment
he was deemed fine and only has to stay
in the SCU due to the antibiotic
treatment which is protocol for Prom
babies. He will have his last dose on
the 17th and be released to me.
Of course I am so happy my baby was born
exactly as I asked God for him to be
born , however I am also so happy that I
am able to announce yet another
successful PROM story to add hope to all
those going through this awful ordeal.
It was everyones positive stories on
this page that kept me going, and I
encourage all the women dealing with
PROM now that it isnt impossible to
deliver a normal and healthy baby. If
anyone wants to email me personally to
ask more details on how my Prom was
managed please due so by writing to
