Hello,
My story, unfortunately, is like many
of yours.
It's been 19 months since my first loss
& I'm still find myself searching for
answers but I don't think I'll ever get
any. I am almost at the point of
accepting that I will never know.
My husband & I fortunately were able to
get pregnant on our first try, we were
due on 8/9/03. Sadly, on 3/27/2003 my
water broke (I did not know it then), I
was having leaking but thought it was
discharge, my first pregnancy, I just
didn't know better. 5 days later I was
getting gready for work & gush, like a
balloon, my water broke, while waiting
for the ambulance, I started to
bleed.
On April 1, 2003 @10:33am I gave birth
to my beautiful, perfect, much loved &
wanted first daughter Karli. My
placenta showed signs of an acute
infection, my doc did not know if the
infection caused my water to break or
if my water broke & then I got an
infection. They were not able to
determine what time of infection it
was. My doc did not suspect IC as I
was only 1cm when I arrived at the
hosp. I had a placental abruption
also. My daughter had a heartbeat that
was slowing down. I never found out
what happened.
We decided to get pregnant again so 3
months later I got pregnant with a due
date of April 10, 2004. I asked my ob
if I should she a maternal/fetal
specialist & he said no.
At 16 weeks(Oct 27,03) I was dialted
over 1cm, had emergency cerclage
surgery the next morning, was put on
modified bedrest. In Nov, I started to
funnel, a pessari(sp?) was then put in
(looked like a rubber band) and I
stayed on bedrest.
December 17, 2003 was admitted to
hospital where there is a level IV NICU
until my daughter arrived.
I had an ultrasound done at the
hospital on December 18th & I was 90%
effaced (I still don't even know what
that exactly means).
At 25 weeks & 2 days (after 2 steriod
shots) my labor started & they could
not stop it. I was in labor for about
5 hours & then I started to bleed with
my contractions. My daughter was born,
via emergency c-section at 9:30pm
weighing 1lb 7.6oz. She had an
infection.
By the grace of God and a lot of
prayers my daughter spent 15weeks in
the NICU, has Retinopathy of
Prematurity & wears glasses. I am
grateful & blessed.
I just wished I had an answer as to why
Karli & Nicole came so early.
I obtained the ultrasound pictures from
my level II ultrasound of Karli(10days
before my water broke) and my cervix
was closed.
I want to thank Jen for referring me to
this site.
Thanks,
Kim
