Hello, here is my story:
In April 2004, I discovered that I was
pregnant with twins at 41 years old! I
have an 11 years old boy. One morning
in July, while putting lotion on my
legs I felt a sharp pain in the lower
right side of the abdomen and wetness
in my underwear. I thought it was just
urine and didn't think anything about
it. I continued to leak a little for
the next 3 weeks. During my monthly
visit (a couple of days after), I told
my doctor who told me not to worry
that it was the pressure of the babies
on my bladder. 2 weeks after I had an
amniocentesis on a Thursday, the
following Sunday I noticed spotting.
Called my doctor who told me to lie
down and come to the office next
morning if I continue to bleed. Early
the next morning, while still in bed I
felt a gush of water, I knew right
away that my water broke. At the
hospital, they confirmed that one of
the babies had no amniotic fluid. I
was told that I would probably loose
my babies but the doctor said that he
will not induce the labor: We were
going to try to save the pregnancy. I
was put on antibiotics. Unfortunately,
that same evening I went into labor
and 6 hours later, my first girl was
born alive (less than on 1lb). She
died in my arms 20 minutes later. I
was devastated! An ultrasound showed
that the 2nd baby was ok (strong
heartbeat, fluid intact etc), my
cervix closed back.. I had hope to
keep the 2nd baby despite the fact
that I was told that I would more
likely loose the 2nd one within the
next two weeks. I stayed at the
hospital under antibiotics.
4 days later, one morning the 2nd
baby's water broke. I delivered after
5 hours of labor. My second daughter
died after 45 min. I cannot describe
the pain I was and still in. I re-
lived each delivery every single day.
I wished I had insisted on being
checked when the liquid started
leaking instead of moving around for 3
weeks. Doing the amniocentesis didn’t
help either. Always listen to your
inner voice !!!
