I had suffered with endometriosis
prior to this, my first pregnancy, so
was over the moon when I conceived
just 3 weeks after I got married. I
had some bleeding in the first 12
weeks but on visiting the doctor I was
reassured everything was ok. My 20
weeks scan showed no problems and I
felt happy that I had made it to the
half way point.
I went on holiday to Spain for a week
just after the scan and was told by my
doctor that it was ok to do so. When
we got back my husband and I got
terrible colds, he got rid of it in a
few days but mine seemed to linger for
a week. The following week on the
Thursday I started to get heavy
discharge that was accompanied by
blood so I went to our maternity
unit. They told me I had an
infection, probably thrush. They
prescribed me a suppository and sent
me home. The following day the
discharge got heavier and I started to
notice some fluid coming out, like
urine. I went back to the unit and
they performed an internal exam and
said that my membranes were ok. Again
they sent me home. On Saturday I
started to bleed again and that night
my waters just gushed. On Sunday
morning my husband took me back to the
hospital where they admitted me for
observation. I still did not really
understand what was going on or the
seriousness of the situation. On
Monday morning I had a scan and they
found that my membranes had ruptured
and that I had a dangerously low level
of fluid. At this point I was told
the bleak outlook, that the baby may
be born soon and as he had not reached
viability yet would probably not
survive. Further to this my
obstetrician told me that I was a
Group B Strep carrier, putting both me
and my baby at further risk. I was
put on anti biotics and told I would
have to stay in hospital. I managed
to hold on for a week but on Saturday
afternoon I went into labour.
Alexander Krishan was born at 3.30am
on Sunday morning. He amazed everyone
by crying when he as born so the neo
natal team took him straight to
intensive care. He fought for 3 days
but passed away on the 12th of
August. My husband and I are
devastated and still can't believe why
and how this has happened to us. We
love our first born child very much
and always will, he will always be in
our hearts. I know he is with our
grandparents and being loved as much
as we love him.
I hope one day I find the strength to
try again but at this time the thought
fills me with fear and dread of PROM
happening again.
