I am so glad i found this website so I
can give hope to other moms with PROM. I
was pregnant with twins and had PPROM on
one twin at 17 weeks. The doctors were
very pessimistic and didnt give me much
hope. There was even a suggestion of
termination, which I would not do. I
was put on bedrest and antibiotics, and
was hospitalized at 24 weeks. I did
recieve steriod shots.
I delivered at 28 weeks 1 day due to
placental abruption. Evan and Elizabeth
were born on 5-19-00. Evan weighed 2 lbs
10 oz and Elizabeth 2 lbs 2 oz. She was
the one with the PPROM. As predicted,
her lungs were very bad. The
neonatiolgist hand bagged her for 3
hours until they could find this nitric
oxide treatment for her lungs. She was
put on the nitric oxide and the high
frequnecy ventilator. That doctor really
saved her life. Later on, many of the
nurses told me that many docs would have
just let her go. Anyway, after 12 long
weeks in the NICU she came home on just
a whisp of oxygen. She is now 6 months
old, 3 months adjusted age and doing
fantastic. She is smiling and holding
her head up and starting to roll over.
She is still pretty small- 9 1/2 lbs,
but is growing steadily.
She is a real miracle baby. Her
brother is also doing
great-at 6 months he weighs 16
pounds!! I hope this gives hope to those
of you going through this. I know how
hopeless it can feel. But keep the
faith-you can prove all the doctors
wrong.
